PERSONAL BRANDING

Personal branding is the process of establishing and promoting oneself as a brand. It involves defining who you are, what you stand for, and what makes you unique. It encompasses everything from your reputation and online presence to your skills, values, and personality traits, all aimed at creating a distinct and memorable image of yourself in the minds of others.

Your personal brand, on the other hand, is much more intentional. It is how you want people to see you. Whereas reputation is about credibility, your personal brand is about visibility and the values that you outwardly represent.

COMMERCIAL BRANDING

Commercial branding is similar to personal branding, but it's focused on creating and promoting a brand identity for products, services, or organizations rather than individuals. It involves developing a unique brand image, including a name, logo, design elements, and messaging, to differentiate the offering from competitors and to resonate with the target audience.

Commercial branding aims to build brand recognition, trust, and loyalty among consumers, ultimately driving sales and fostering long-term relationships with customers.

What to wear for your session?

When preparing for a personal branding session, it’s essential to wear clothing that reflects your personal brand and the image you want to convey to your audience. Here are some tips:

1. Dress in a way that aligns with your brand identity and values. Choose outfits that represent your style, professionalism, and personality.

2. Opt for clothing that makes you feel confident and comfortable. When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it will reflect positively in your photos or videos.

3. Consider the context of your branding session. If it’s a professional setting, such as a corporate headshot or LinkedIn profile picture, dress in business attire that is polished and appropriate for your industry. If it’s a more casual or creative setting, you can choose attire that reflects your personal style while still maintaining a professional image.

4. Pay attention to colors and patterns. Choose clothing colors that complement your skin tone and make you stand out without being distracting. Avoid busy patterns or logos that could take attention away from you as the focal point.

5. Keep accessories simple and tasteful. Accessories can add personality to your outfit, but avoid anything too flashy or distracting. Opt for classic pieces that enhance your look without overwhelming it.

Overall, the key is to present yourself authentically while also considering how your clothing choices contribute to the overall impression you want to make with your personal brand.

KIDS Modeling Portfolio: Wardrobe & Styling

Submitting to an agency

Please make sure to let your photographer know that you will be submitting the images to the agency. Inquire your agency with any photography guidelines and requirements for submission. It is an important step in order to deliver the photographs with agency’s standards.

Wardrobe Styling

I always recommend going to Zara.com and have a look at kid’s section for inspiration. Styling does not have to be complex, but it has to be tasteful and modern. I recommend going with neutral palettes, avoiding bright, neon colors, big patterns, combining too many patterns and textures in one look.

Layering is always a good idea. To create an interesting photo - add a jacket, coat, scarf, beret, purse/bag (neutral colors).
Please make sure all items are ironed and steamed. All loose threats are cut off. There are no stains and the colors are not washed out.
Please avoid fluffy princess looking dresses. It drastically hides the shape of the child and makes a poor impression in a professional modeling portfolio.
Do not overflow 1 look with too many colors. Opt for 2, maximum 3 colors for 1 look (example below).

You can always opt for one color theme clothes, but “break” it with a neutral accent color such as white (see example below).

Be mindful about using patterns. In this example the jacket itself has patterns, but a simple and not too bright orange shirt “neutralizes” the look. The striped orange bag serves as an accent. The shoes neutralize the look since they have a neutral color, no patters or texture.

Athletic Wardrobe

- white sneakers (make sure there are no stains, outsoles are clean)
- add sports accessories
- try to avoid neon colors
- add layers (hat, cap, sweatshirt etc.)

Wardrobe for groups

- stay in one style wardrobe (formal-formal, urban-urban, street-street)
- work with the color wheel for complimentary colors (triad)

- use more complex color combinations (see picture below)

- avoid different patterns
- keep the shoes same or similar in style and color

Styling for Boys

- avoid neon colors
- use neutral palette (beige, navy, blue, light blue, pink, yellow)
- add layers
- use color wheel as reference for complimentary colors
- add accessories - hats, caps, watch, tote bag etc.
- avoid formal suit looks. Instead opt for a blazer, add accessories, such as pocket square, scarf, a sweater over shoulders.
